About: Children

Author and Teaching Artist Nancy W. Li

Hi, I am a dreamer and doer who believes that storytelling can help us all live more wonderful lives – stories that bring more fun, mutuality, balance, love, and peace to the world.

Certifications and Training:

  • Bachelor of Science in Biology and East Asian studies with a focus on Japanese from the University of Virginia
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) from New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business
  • Teaching Artist for After School Activities Partnerships (ASAP), a Philadelphia non profit that develops high quality after school activities and resources to empower youth and strengthen communities
  • Facilitator, mentor, and Certification of Completion from Compassion Course with Thom Bond

Experiences:

  • Authored the “Let’s Make A Cake!” picture book. This and other children’s stories came to Nancy during a 10 day silent meditation retreat
  • Conducted author visits, read out louds, and workshops to children around the Philadelphia area with local neighborhood community events, elementary schools, and afterschool programs
  • Developed material to support social emotional learning (SEL) and STEM learning via active workshops and lesson plans

Why am I passionate about what I do for children:

  • I believe we all have the capacity to tell new stories, especially stories of self connection, and these stories are important to young children as they explore their sense of self in the world
  • As a child I was pegged as a “smart math and science kid” but was limited in the arts. I want math and science kids to know they can learn through the arts and the liberal arts kids to know they can learn math and science through arts
